Concept of Sola Scriptura and inerrancy of scripture

Latin word “sola “ means alone and “scriptura” refers to our scriptures.
Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authority of Christian faith and practice. The Bible is complete, authoritative and true as written in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” .

Concept of Sola Scriptura comes in when questions and personal opinions starts to take priority over the teachings in the Bible. Therefore it is important that the only way to know for sure what God expects of us is to stay true to what we know He has revealed, His word — the Bible. We have to be sure and no doubt of the fact that the Scripture is reliable.

Wayne Grudem, author of Systematic Theology define: "The inerrancy of Scripture means that Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact" .

According to Tim Challies, What Inerrancy is Not:
inerrancy does not preclude the use of ordinary language;
inerrancy does not preclude the use of loose and free quotations;
the Bible can be inerrant even if it contains unusual grammatical constructions; and Scripture is inerrant only in its original autographs.

“Straw men have never been known to put up much of a fight, hence, trying to defend an errant view of sola scriptura always results in defeat.” By James White

Until proven, which i doubt will, our scripture is truly the word of God and from God to all mankind and there is no error.

  1. Does God only reveal himself through written Word of God and the Bible? Or how far can we say that revelations is to be found in the context of other non-Christian faiths?

  2. The very first thought that came to my mind is Jesus Christ. Do they accept Jesus Christ as the Son of God? God revealed Himself through Jesus Christ in the form of man to all mankind.

    Jesus Himself declared this. Philip, an apostle of Christ, sought a revelation of God. Jesus reply was, "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father (God). How can you say, show us the Father? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?" (John 14:9,10)

    And in 2 Corinthians 4:4, it is written "the god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of christ, who is the image of God." It is due to this sin that idolatry began and the knowledge of the one true God was never grasped.

  4. Beside Jesus, Bible and Word of God in Christian faith. What about the revelations in other non-Christian faiths? Or are revelations only found in the context of Christianity?
